In honor of Veterans Day, this week’s writing prompt is a two part prompt.
Part 1: “Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of a readiness to die.” – G. K. Chesterton
Pick a war and imagine you are fighting in it. It is the night before a big battle or mission. Write a journal entry. How do you feel about the upcoming battle/mission? What are you most afraid of? What person, place, or life plan do you keep thinking about? What do you believe the outcome of the battle/mission will be?
Part 2: “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.” – George Washington
Now write a second journal entry dated November 11, 2016. How do you feel this Veterans Day? How do you remember that big battle or mission from Part 1? What was the outcome? Do you feel like your risk and sacrifice are appreciated? Explain why or why not.
Thank you to all the brave men and women who served or are currently serving this country in the armed forces. Bless you for what you did and do for us.
